Dr Alison Telfer (Honorary Research Fellow)

I am interested in both structure and function of the PSII reaction centre and mechanisms leading to oxidative damage, high oxidising potential of P680+ and secondary electron donors beta-carotene and chlorophyll and P680 triplet state and singlet oxygen formation. My work involves the isolation of PSII reaction centre complexes at Imperial College and measurements of ENDOR (with Friedhelm Lendzian and Robert Bittl, Berlin) and resonance Raman (with Bruno Robert's group, Saclay, Paris) of triplet and oxidised species. This leads to information on location of charged states. Also, I was the coordinator of the Summer School for the ESF Biophysics of Photosynthesis Programme, which was held at Imperial College London, and University College London, in July 1997.
